Les Pourciaux Cottage Alderney

AN ISLAND COTTAGE BY THE SEA

Accommodation and Facilities

Les Pourciaux Cottage is situated on Longis Common, directly opposite Longis beach and Fort Raz.  The cottage is attached to the main house but has its own entrance on the ground floor.  From the entrance hall a spiral staircase leads up to a good sized open plan kitchen/living/dining room with stunning views of Fort Raz, Longis Bay and Essex Hill and Castle.

Off the ground floor hallway is the first of two bedrooms, with a large double bed and en suite shower room.  The second double bedroom, also with a double bed, lies off the living area and also has the same lovely views of Longis Bay.  There is a second bathroom on the first floor with a freestanding bath.

Outside there is parking and a bike stand for bikes.  The cottage has its own garden area with outdoor furniture and a separate picnic table exclusively for guests is situated on higher ground offering superb views over Longis Bay.

The beautiful Longis beach is literally a stone's throw away - at the end of the garden. The town of St Anne is about 1.5 miles away - 5 minutes by car and about a 40-50 minute walk depending upon the route you take and your pace!

We accept well behaved dogs by prior arrangement only.  All we ask is that dogs are not left alone in the property for more than a couple of hours at  a time.  Experience also tells us that we can accept no more than one large or two small dogs at any time.  This is for the comfort of ourselves and our dogs, and also for our guests' enjoyment of the cottage as it is not large and space is limited.

For your use the cottage has the following:-

  • Free wifi
  • Smart  TV incl freeview channels
  • Radio/CD player
  • Washing machine
  • Dishwasher
  • Iron and ironing board
  • Gas Oven and hob
  • Microwave
  • Fridge (with small freezer compartment)
  • Wood-burning stove (you can buy wood locally)
  • Hair dryer
  • Travel cot (this can be provided if required, please request this in advance)

In addition we provide:-

  • Bath towels
  • Bed linen
  • Tea towels
  • Loo roll - plenty to start you off, you will need to buy more if you run out!
  • Kitchen cloths
  • Some basic beach toys (boogie boards, bucket and spade etc)
  • A welcome pack including tea, coffee, bread, butter, jam, a bottle of wine and a couple of beers.

You will need to bring:-

  • Beach towels
  • A warm jacket for chilly evenings when the sun goes down (it can get quite cold if you wish to be outdoors for a bbq after a hot day)

There is no landline in the cottage but we do offer free wifi so that guests may use their own devices.  Since Brexit we have found that some guests struggle to use their mobile phones on the island - this seems to be something to do with the fact that Alderney is not considered UK for mobile phone networks and is of course also not part of Europe.  If it is important to you to stay connected to family and friends in the UK it is strongly adviseable to check with your mobile phone provider BEFORE you leave home to make sure you can use your mobile in Alderney.

Les Pourciaux is about as far away from the telephone exchange on the island as it is possible to get and for this reason our broadband is not as powerful as it would be were we to live in town so streaming is not always possible.  When we first asked how we could improve it, we were told the only way is to "move closer to town" and ..... well, lets just say we know where we want to live!
